My discussion about Hespeler with the delightful Tony Rossel.

CambridgeToday has invited candidates who have provided contact information on the city election page to share a bit about who they are and their platform.
Q1: Our Ward system creates competition in many ways. You serve at the pleasure of those who voted in your Ward, not across the City. While your there to represent their issues, you also have a broader responsibility of representing the entirety of the City. Will your decisions be based on what your constituents tell you to do, or will you also consider the greater good in your decision making?
Q2: While many refute the statement that they are saying NOT IN MY BACKYARD, we all know, that is just the case. Very few developments have residents from the opposite side of town registering opposition. You will be faced with this, how will you work with the Developer and Residents to find common ground, given we need more housing?

Q: You will be operating under a Council where the Mayor has what is referred to as Strong Mayor Powers, essentially a veto, however their decision must equate to a majority. Some Mayors have actually used this to control what comes to the table at Council, in essence diverting Council Members requests for a motion, to avoid the issue all together. As a Councillor, you have an obligation, to present motions for change that you or your constituents desire. How will you work within this system to ensure your ward residents have a strong voice representing them?
